Creative Continuing Care
Creative Continuing Care is a unique service that recognises the needs of a minority of substance misuse service users. Through ongoing discussions with service users Inspirit has learned that there are many service users who develop a problem with drugs or alcohol as a result of seeking a creative or spiritual experience and many others are introduced to substances through working in creative industries. Many others used drugs and alcohol to escape what they have perceived as a mundane existence and a limited role for them in society, seeking an identity they see as ‘glamorous’ or ‘romantic’. These people are often the hardest to engage in recovery as many would choose a familiar life of deprivation over mainstream employment focused job search activities.
Many people we spoke to felt excluded from mainstream opportunities both for treatment and education. Our aim is to bridge the gap they experience and remove the sense of exclusion and to enable them to engage with the world the way it is. The Creative Continuing Care service aims to fill this gap.
Inspirit offers two projects (see links to the left) to engage those interested in exploring the world in a creative way and who need ongoing support to find their place in it and develop their abilities and independence.
